This Webquest aims to give students a deeper understanding of Moroccan's culture. Morocco is a country that located in South of Spain, just a few miles. So, how can a country be so close to us and at the same time look so different from us? One of the main objectives of these tasks is to help students to understand a bit better Moroccan culture and its customs.
This Webquest has been designed for 1st year of Batxillerat students although it could also be adapted for students of 2nd year of Batxillerat.
The purposes this Webquest aims to accomplish are:
- Appreciate Moroccan cultural diversity and compare it to ours.
- Encourage interactive/collaborative learning through the use of high cognitive thinking, involving dialogue and creative interpretation.
- To be able to work in group and to reach an agreement between all the components of the group so they can come out with a final joint presentation.
- Understand and communicate information in an appropriate manner and using the correct tenses and vocabulary.
- Write recipes, journals, essays, etc. showing a good knowledge of the English language mixing the researched information and their own ideas.
The students will require some basic knowledge of computers and internet as well as an intermediate level of English. During the exercise, the teacher will be responsible for monitoring the whole process and making sure the students understand everything, being there to answer any issues that might arise throughout the exercise.
To convey the task, the students will have to work on groups of four in which one of them will have to choose a character (journalist, chef, history teacher and travel agent) Once they have chosen their character they will have to prepare a short presentation about it. To do this we will provide them with info about each one of the characters. However, the students will be encouraged to find further information on the Web. Once they have finish their individual work they will have to prepare a group presentation in which they will have to introduce their four characters and conclude by saying why Morocco being a country that is geographically to close to us, seems to be so far from us.
For the first part of the work, they will have to work in individual computers. It would be preferably carried out in six lessons although it can be done in less if we do not have enough time.
The final work will be assessed. They will be marked on their individual and on their group work. Please see the ‘assessment button' for more details.
