Square

PLAZA DE LA BARCELONETA

The square is rectangular, with a tarmac ground, six street lights, thee benches, eight trees, fifteen longitudinal streets, five transversal streets and some motor bikes. In the middle, there is a black iron fountain, the Boters fountain. I like this fountain,it is curious. The square is surrounded by restaurants and the Sant Miquel del Puerto church.

The architect who built this square was Pedro Martín Cemeño. The style is Baroque. As a result of this construction ,a residential area inspired in 17th century Italy was built around the square.

Not many years ago the square was full of people. The children played, ran, shouted…. The dogs went for a walk, the men went out for a walk with their wives… Everybody was very happy. But lately, the square is almost empty. People do not go there a lot. Also, the only restaurant is very expensive. The square is dead.
