DEL ANGEL
This square gets its name from
the legend surrounding the removal of St. Eulalia's remains from Santa
Maria del Mar to the cathedral. Supposedly the martyred saint's body suddenly
became too heavy to carry, and an angel appeared in the square pointing
a finger at one of the church officials, who, it turned out, had secretly
stolen one of Eulalia's toes. The angel statue was placed in the square
in the 17th century to commemorate the event. It's now in the Museu d'Història
de la Ciutat.
I like this square very much
because when I was a baby I lived near the square and It reminds me about
things from my childhood. I remember going to the baker's to buy bread
and cakes on Sunday mornings with my father. I liked the smell of the
shop and my father used to buy me a special sweet.
