PLAZA ESPAÑA

People say that "Plaza España" is one of the most ambitious projects in the
city of Barcelona, since José Maria Jujol was the architect who designed it.
The sculpture in the centre represents the river Ebro as well as other rivers and seas in the Iberian Peninsula.. It also represents the different ages of man : childhood, youth and old age.
These sculptures by "Miquel Blay" are recognized world wide among the best sculptures in Catalonia.
The reshaping of the square and construction of the two Venetian towers dates back to the international trade fair held in Barcelona at the beginning of the 20th century.
In the three columns that flank the central body of the fountain, are engraved, among others, the names of Isabel Católica, Jaime I, Cervantes, which add a historical value to the different artistic movements represented in this magnificient square .
