Santa Maria del Pi

This is a beautiful view from the Ramblas and we thought it was very interesting because this building in front of the church was built in a way we could see the bell of the church from the Ramblas. This is the most characteristic element of the church. It was built in 1379 by the architec Bartomeu Mas. It was probably finished by 1461. It is 54 m high. It has an octagonal structure and the walls are 3.55 m wide.
There is a list with the names of the bells through the years: L'Esquirol, La Josepa, La Vicenta, La Maria, L'Andreua i L'Antonia.
It is known that in 987 there was a Romanic church devoted to Santa Maria del Pi but the present church was built from 1319 to 1391. It is pure gothic.
