The
statue is situated in the Casa de la Convalescència. Some decades
ago, the richest people of Barcelona used to decorate their houses with
monuments of saints. If the man of the house was named John, they choose
Saint John for their house, and if the woman was called Anna, they made
build a monument of Saint Anna. This statue represents Saint Pau because
the man who financed the construction of this house was named Pau Ferran.
The monument of St. Pau is in the confluence of two streets: Carrer del
Carme and Carrer Egípciaques. The statue symbolizes an old man who
carries a sword and a Bible. He has a crown on his head and wears poor clothes
and sandals. I like this statue very much because it is not usual to see
statues in the street, and because this one expresses a very strange feeling,
like a mixture of pain, sadness and oldness.
