| Villa
de Madrid square is located in the ancient part of Barcelona, surrounded
by the streets of Canuda, Portaferrisa, Mare de Déu and Bot. This
ancient village still preserves a Roman cemetery built on the 2nd century.
It is said that these graves are the remains of a Roman path that started
in the Plaça Nova and crossed the city from the East side to the
West. In the garden of Villa de Madrid there is also a fountain, which was
built some centuries later in order to represent the harmony between Barcelona
and Madrid. |
