Façade

Name of house: Casa de la Lactancia
Address: Gran Via 475
Architect: Antoni de Falguera i Sivilla
Building date: 1906-1913

Besides the façade, the organization of the building has a large courtyard that acts as a vestibule and distributor to the different rooms on in the ground and first floors, that existed in the previous building is also to be noted. This courtyard is closed at the top by a lantern with a valuable polychrome glazing. The long balcony that opens the first floor to the control space is a magnificent example of coordination and synthesis of artisan works.
During the sixties the building was adapted to be used as a maternity school and clinic, this being the reason for the first floor to be divided in two and two other floors being added on the back section, with the interior halls and courtyards of the original building totally modified. Recently, from 1983 to 1986, the building has been remodelled, to be adapted to its new use, by the municipality of Barcelona.
It is a nice building indeed.
