The first stone of the building
was laid in 1863 and the work was finished in 1871 and it was inaugurated
in 1877. The building has several entrances and the main one goes to
the Auditorium. There are marble staircases and also some Arabic and
Byzantine motifs which establishes a contrast with the Neoromanesque
architecture for the construction. It has a medieval look and a bit
influenced by the French rationalism. The gardens at the back of the
building were done in 1934 by Artur Rigol.
